Whittier Hospital Medical Center Awarded 2019 Patient Safety Honor Roll Award by California Health and Human Services Agency, Cal Hospital Compare and Hospital Quality Institute

WHITTIER, Calif., Feb. 3, 2020 - Whittier Hospital Medical Center received the 2019 Patient Safety Honor Roll Award from the California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHS), Cal Hospital Compare (CHC) and Hospital Quality Institute (HQI). The award signifies that Whittier Hospital Medical Center is delivering safer and more affordable care to Californians and recognizes the hospital's high-rated patient safety profile in patient experience, infection prevention, sepsis management and Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.
"Whittier Hospital Medical Center is continually improving its quality of patient care," said Whittier Hospital Medical Center CEO Richard Castro. "We are thrilled that our attention to our patients' health and safety has been affirmed through this prestigious recognition."
Honor roll hospitals must meet a rigorous evaluation by having at least two-thirds of measure results exceed the 50th percentile and no measure result below the 10th percentile. Award recipients must also have an "A" in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for the past three reporting periods.
"Improving the quality of patient care in hospitals is critically important," said CHHS secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly. "These annual measurements allow us to acknowledge hospitals doing excellent work and also inform hospitals when improvement is needed."
The Patient Safety Honor Roll offers Californians a meticulously evaluated list of hospitals that have consistently demonstrated a strong culture of safety across multiple departments and offers hospitals an additional tool to evaluate their own performance.
CHHS has endorsed this honor roll partnership with HQI and CHC in support of its commitment to making California a healthy, vibrant and inclusive place to live.
