County Supervisor Solis Presents $1 Million Grant to Strengthen Emergency Care at Greater El Monte Community Hospital
South El Monte, Calif. — On the morning of October 31, Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis presented a $1 million Measure B grant to Greater El Monte Community Hospital (GEMCH), part of AHMC Healthcare Inc., to enhance emergency medical services and strengthen hospital stability in the San Gabriel Valley. The check presentation ceremony was held at the hospital in South El Monte.

Distinguished guests attending the event included Linda Marsh, Senior Executive Vice President of AHMC Healthcare; Dr. Stanley Toy, Chief Executive Officer of Greater El Monte Community Hospital; Jeffrey Seymour, Chairman of the Greater El Monte Hospital Board; Alma Martinez, City Manager of El Monte; Councilmembers Cindy Galvan and Martin Herrera, City of El Monte; Jake Fisher, Chief of Police for the City of El Monte; and Honorable LA Commissioner Jerry Velasco, among others.

Supervisor Solis emphasized that Greater El Monte Community Hospital plays a vital role in providing healthcare for local families, seniors, and working communities. She noted that the Measure B funding is intended to ensure the continuation of lifesaving emergency services for residents who depend on the hospital most.

Linda Marsh, Senior Executive Vice President of AHMC Healthcare, expressed appreciation on behalf of Dr. Jonathan Wu, Chairman of AHMC Healthcare Inc., thanking Supervisor Solis for her continued trust and support. She said the grant not only supports Greater El Monte Community Hospital but also reflects the county’s commitment to improving community health and well-being. Marsh also commended Supervisor Solis for her foresight, leadership, and steadfast advocacy for local healthcare institutions.

Dr. Stanley Toy, CEO of Greater El Monte Community Hospital, led the ceremony and thanked Supervisor Solis for helping the hospital secure Measure B funds to sustain and enhance emergency services. He explained that recent federal policy changes have created financial challenges for the hospital and that the Measure B grant will help alleviate the burden, allowing medical staff to continue delivering high-quality emergency care to the community.

Dr. Toy added that the hospital’s emergency department treats more than 26,000 patients each year, over 80% of whom are Medi-Cal beneficiaries or uninsured residents -- underscoring the hospital’s essential need for public health funding and community support.
Supervisor Solis further highlighted that local hospitals serve as the backbone of community healthcare. She reaffirmed that, regardless of income, background, or circumstance, everyone deserves access to care when needed, and that the County remains committed to keeping hospital doors open to all.

For more than 40 years, Greater El Monte Community Hospital has served the San Gabriel Valley as a five-star community hospital offering a full range of services, including intensive care, diagnostic testing, rehabilitation, and surgery. It is the only 24/7 emergency hospital within a six-mile radius, serving South El Monte, El Monte, Arcadia, Baldwin Park, and West Puente Valley.
