Garfield Medical Center acquires the da Vinci® Surgical System

Monterey Park, CA - Garfield Medical Center has acquired the da Vinci® Surgical System-- a robotic surgical system with 3D HD vision. The system provides surgeons with an alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional laparoscopy, putting a surgeon's hands at the controls of a state-of-the-art robotic platform.

The da Vinci system gives surgeons unparalleled precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures while minimizing blood loss and the time a patient needs to stay in the hospital. "We are very excited to be able to offer advanced minimally-invasive robotic surgery to the communities that we serve," said Patrick Petre, Garfield Medical Center CEO. "Less pain, less blood loss and scarring, shorter recovery time and in some cases, better clinical outcomes... the numerous benefits to the patient solidified our decision to acquire the system."

Core technologies for the da Vinci systems include advanced 3D HD visualization with up to 10x magnification, offering surgeons an immersive view of the operative field; EndoWrist® instrumentation, providing surgeons with natural dexterity and range of motion far greater than even the human hand; and Intuitive® motion technology, which replicates the operative experience and control of open surgery by preserving natural eye-hand-instrument alignment and intuitive instrument control.

While clinical studies support the effectiveness of the da Vinci® System when used in minimally invasive surgery, individual results may vary. Surgery with the da Vinci Surgical System may not be appropriate for every individual. Always ask your doctor about all treatment options, as well as their risks and benefits.

About the da Vinci® Surgical System

The da Vinci Surgical System is a breakthrough robotic platform designed to enable complex surgery using a minimally invasive approach. The da Vinci System consists of an ergonomic surgeon's console, a patient-side cart with four interactive robotic arms, a high-performance vision system and proprietary EndoWrist® instruments. Powered by state-of-the-art robotic technology, the da Vinci System is designed to scale, filter and seamlessly translate the surgeon's hand movements into more precise movements of the EndoWrist instruments. The net result is an intuitive interface with breakthrough surgical capabilities. By providing surgeons with superior visualization, enhanced dexterity, greater precision and ergonomic comfort, the da Vinci Surgical System makes it possible for more surgeons to perform minimally invasive procedures involving complex dissection or reconstruction. This ultimately raises the standard of care for complex surgeries, translating into numerous potential patient benefits, including less pain, a shorter recovery and quicker return to normal daily activities.
