After Surgery

You may not be ready to leave the hospital for several hours following your operation, depending on the specific procedure and anesthesia.

Your nurse will review any special instructions about diet, activity, and medications following your procedure. Your nurse will also talk to you about follow-up care recommended by your doctor.

Your hospital stay may be extended, if your doctor determines that overnight observation is required.

At Home:

Be sure to rest for at least 24-48 hours after surgery.
Notify your doctor if you develop a fever, excessive pain or problems with the wound area, such as drainage.
A nurse will contact you at home to check on your progress.
